About Us

Jessica Aimee Kishner

Jessica is an all around creative woman. She has been a long time public speaker, actress, and ballroom dancer. In 2021 she became a songwriter, and in 2022 she became an NFT artist. Jessica’s sock art and her song I Won’t Break are the focus of this collection. Jessica has Down syndrome and enjoys sharing her talents with the world not only on a personal level, but also because she wants to be a part of breaking down the stereotypes people associate with Down syndrome and the limitations that are often set because of people’s preconceived ideas.

This year’s collection, Rock Your Socks 321–I Won’t Break is a generative nft collection combining Jessica’s sock art and the original song I Won’t Break, for which she wrote the lyrics. Music by Joe Seabe. Vocals by Sam Sznd.

We believe Rock Your Socks 321–I Won’t Break by Jessica Aimee Kishner to be the first music + art NFT collection by an artist and songwriter with Down syndrome.

Sara

Sara is the organizer, cheerleader, facilitator, partner in crime, chauffeur, and all around supporter because Sara is Jessica’s mom and that’s what moms do.

Why Socks

Rock Your Socks for Down Syndrome

People all over the globe now celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing colorful mismatched socks.
Some people say that chromosomes look like socks and that is where the idea originated. What has taken off is people wearing fun, wild, colorful mismatched socks that will be noticed! Down syndrome is usually a recognizable condition and people with Down syndrome are often noticed more than others when out in the community. They may be noticed because of their differences but really, like mismatched socks doing the same thing for us as regular socks, people with Down syndrome are more like everyone else than they are different. Like the wild, colorful mismatched socks you’ll see on World Down Syndrome Day, they’ll probably also make you smile.

It's all in the Numbers

A Down syndrome day AND a Down syndrome month?

World Down Syndrome Day

In 2011 the United Nations General Assembly declared March 21st to be World Down Syndrome Day & it was first officially celebrated on 3-21-2012

#WDSD

Why March 21st?

March 21st was chosen to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day because Down syndrome occurs when an individual has 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. Celebrating on 3-21 highlights that.

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

In the US, October was established as Down Syndrome Awareness Month in the 1980s, so we have been involved in awareness campaigns during that month for Jessica’s entire life.

Blue and yellow are the colors used for Down syndrome, so if you see a blue and yellow awareness ribbon during October you’ll immediately know what it means if you didn’t already.  Blue and yellow also play key roles in our collection.

Down Syndrome Awareness Stickers

What is the sticker campaign all about?

Last fall while many people had gone back to their normal lives, Jessica had to continue social distancing because of the autoimmune disease she had in addition to Down syndrome. Knowing October was coming up and Down syndrome awareness activities would be happening that she couldn’t be a part of, she and her mom came up with another plan.

Jessica had created some adorable Halloween themed bears for BearMarketNFTs. Mom thought they were too cute not to be shared with others outside of web3. The sticker idea came to life. Initially the goal was gifting 1500 stickers to a few teacher friends to share with their students. As people found out about the project, interest quickly grew, and in about 2 weeks the new number of sticker sheets needed was over 10,500. They were sent primarily to elementary and middle schools, but also to daycares, after school programs, Down syndrome organization Buddy Walks, and youth clubs. The desire was to have young people receive the free stickers, first notice how cute they were and then second realize that they were created by someone unexpected, someone with Down syndrome. Hopefully this realization helps to build the idea that we all have talents and people with Down syndrome may surprise you with theirs. At the request of a few schools Jessica recorded a video about Down syndrome and that was made available to share via YouTube.

There was such a positive response to the sticker campaign that Jessica and her mom set the goal to more than double the reach this year. While the 2022 sticker printing and shipping was paid for by mom, the plan this year is to use a large portion of the mint proceeds to fund the sticker campaign, and to send at least 25,000 stickers to students across all 50 states.

Utility

What do you get with each NFT?

Utility is a big word when it comes to NFT collections. It can be the primary reason that people choose to mint or collect. The focus for Rock Your Socks 321–I Won’t Break is not utility the way many think of it.

With every NFT collected from us:

  • You are supporting a visual artist and songwriter with Down syndrome.
  • You will be able to Rock Your Socks on March 21st or any day of the year to show your support for all people with Down syndrome.
  • You will be able to enjoy your own copy of I Won’t Break, a powerful song with lyrics written by Jessica.
  • You will know that you are helping us with our sticker campaign creating more Down syndrome awareness in October.
